We don't know who they are. We don't know where they are. But somehow, they laid hands on our packages - bore snakes funded by the East Fresno Rotary Club. And they took the time to express their gratitude with this photo.

Thanks guys, for what you do (and the picture). Stay safe. Whoever you are, you've made our day!

In 2004, an Iraq-based Marine told his mom back home in California that he needed better cleaning materials for his weapons. Knowing nothing of guns, Mary Ellen Salzano spawned Project Bore Snake when she started asking those who did. Recently, we heard from Mary Ellen. She had no idea her initial efforts to help her son's division had been continued by others and had grown to help thousands more Soldiers and Marines.
After stumbling upon this website from a Google search, Mary Ellen told us:

"I had no idea this service was still happening... and I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face..." Read it all

Some of the most generous groups and individuals have been Rotary Clubs and Rotarians, who have donated nearly $9000. These contributions will serve the needs of 1276 of our brave and loyal soldiers. One of the most active has been the East Fresno Rotary Club, who equipped an entire unit Serving in Afghanistan. To show how thankful they are, they sent back the picture to the right - just click on it for a better view.

My name is Spc R. [name withheld]. I am currently stationed in Baghdad, Iraq. I am with the [unit withheld]. We are in serious need of cleaning supplies for our weapons. A friend of mine who is an Army Ranger told me about your organization and I was hoping you would be willing to help us out. We would appreciate anything you could send us. If at all possible we need bore snakes in calibers of 5.56mm, 7.62mm, 9mm, and also .45 caliber. If you could help us out with any of these items we would be very grateful. If not we understand that there are others who are also in need and we appreciate your efforts and thank you.

Some of us had them before, now some of our soldiers are getting them free from your project. It is the support of not just our families, but support from great companies and employees like yours that get us through every day here in Iraq. Thank you again!!

PS Any chance you have kits that we can use to clean our shotguns as well?

I am the unit armorer for [unit withheld] and was wandering about your operation. As weapon specialist you know how hard it is to keep a weapon clean in this enviroment, and lets face it the old buttstock cleaning kits just don't do it. There are currently 130 Soldiers I supply weapons for including a few M9. All others with M4 and M240B. Is there anyway you could supply us with some boresnakes? At this point anything would help. any thing from a 5.56 to a .50 cal would be great. Thank you for supporting the troops in this wonderful way and thank you for the support.

I read in a magazine that you had this program going to get Bore Snakes out to troops serving in the Middle East. I was wondering if there is any way we could get some sent out for our guys. We handle a lot of missions, spreading all the way from Baghdad to Ramadi; not always in the most desireable locations. Having a great tool like this would be a fantastic help. We do not have any luck getting boresnakes. We have tried several times to order them through our supply system with no luck. We have several weapons of each caliber, especially M4's.

I heard about your website and the great things you and others are doing for our Soldiers. You are Great Americans. It is hard to see that Americans still support us with all of the news reports, but it is good to have Americans like you on our side.

Do you think it is possible to get some Bore Snakes for my platoon to help keep our weapons clean for our missions? Thanks in advance. I really appreciate what you are doing for American Soldiers.

I am currently a platoon leader in western Iraq and am wondering if you are able to take on a large project as providing my platoon (45 men) with boresnakes. I received two bore snakes from a soldier who was sponsored by a family member, one for my 9mm pistol and one for my M4 carbine. I have no idea how I have managed to go this long in my career without one of these effective, handy, and convenient tools. Small enough to wad up and carry easily, no danger of damage to the weapon, and no danger of personal injury from your hand slipping off of a cleaning rod. If they've got some for .50 cal or 7.62 I'd love to get my hands on some. The 9mm one was great because it seems like 9mm cleaning kits are a lot more scarce around here. I am the First Sergeant of a Company on a year tour in Iraq... We enjoy speed and ease of which our cleaning standard can be obtained using your products. The harsh and dirty enviroment that we operate in demands frequent cleaning. We also have 3 sniper rifles in the 7.62 cal. (Remington 700 variants) and 2 sniper rifles in .50 cal. I am concerned that these rifles need to be cleaned effectively without causing extensive barrel wear, along with the other hazards that accompany cleaning a precision rifle.
