   Over 30,000 Bore Snakes shipped!

Project Bore Snake Has Ceased Operations

In September 2008, after raising over $210,000 and shipping nearly 32,000 bore snakes, "the Project" was informed that the U.S. military procurement system is now satisfying requests for bore snakes. Accordingly, we are no longer processing orders for Bore Snakes. US troops may order bore snakes using these National Stock Numbers (NSN):

.223 Cal.

.30 Cal.

More Information

We sincerely appreciate the ongoing encouragement and support we have received. We must express our special appreciation for the personal support received from Rotary. Special thanks to some people that took time out of their lives to help us help our troops. New friends, Daniel Bonyhadi, Dave Holden, Bruce Kleckner and many Club Presidents adopted the effort to help. On several occasions, the National Rifle Association (NRA) contributed financially and with advertising in their magazines. After four years supporting our brave and loyal combat troops, we have found the connections for these worthy men and women to get "snakes" for them from the Dept of Defense through the GSA system. We have done our job and we now need to take a rest from this concentrated effort.

We will return any monies received going forward and any residual funds currently in hand will be "washed out" by sending bore snakes to organizations that have ordered from us in the past. No cash refunds will be made. Checks will be returned and Charge card donations are now blocked.

We praise the Lord for allowing us to perform this work and we pray each night for the safety of our men and women in the service of our country around the world.

The site will continue for some time to allow emails to ensure any inquiry will be received and responded to.

Thank you and God Bless America.

Who We Are

This project came about through the cooperation of several individuals and companies who focused on a single goal - to support our fighting servicemen in a significant way as once again, as a nation, we combat the forces of oppression.

In 2004, Morgan Hill, California realtor Mary Ellen Salzano learned of material deficiencies affecting our fighting men in Iraq in letters from a very special U.S. Marine - her son.

Mary Ellen discovered there was a particular need for better gun cleaning tools! The G.I. cleaning kits were difficult to use and attracted grit in the hostile Iraqi enviroment. M-16s do a great job when clean, but it can be time-consuming and inconvenient (to say the least) to keep them that way.

The California NRA Members' Coucils
Mary Ellen enlisted the help of a friend, Judy Kritikos, an active member of the South Valley NRA Members' Council. Judy subsequently contacted the California NRA Members' Councils Volunteer Regional Coordinator, Mike Schrader.

Mike spread the word throughout his organization and to other volunteer networks. The response was impressive as many wanted to help. Even NRA staff began to get involved when NRA 'field reps' and Friends-of-NRA dinner committee persons passed the hat.

The end result of this initial, unofficial effort was to send about $5000 worth of bore snakes, cleaner and Nomex fire gloves to Mary Ellens son's division (Nomex gloves are used in handling the metal parts of amored vehicles and patrol boats).

Eventually, Jim Kochheiser, president of the Fresno-Madera NRA Members' Council, would advance the concept to the 'next level' in bringing together the right mix of companies and non-profit groups to properly support this fine program. It was at this stage that Jim received a letter from Paul Payne, the Program Administrator for the California NRA Members' Councils - the group from which so much unofficial support had originated. Paul, who is also Liaison to NRA's Executive Vice-President (that's Wayne LaPierre), voiced strong approval, stating:

"...The idea of providing our troops with an easy and effective method of maintaining their firearms is clearly a noble and worthwhile effort... I am proud to lend my support to Project Bore Snake and urge NRA Members' Councils, volunteers, and members, to consider assisting in this effort..."
Full steam ahead, Jim approached organizations that he knew could provide critical resources in the areas needed to launch Project Bore Snake. The following organizations were highly supportive and eager to play a role in turning Project Bore Snake into reality:
